IndiegrrlTM highlights its harder edge with RockHER Showcase

Indiegrrl, an independent women's music cooperative and support network which was launched via the Internet, will highlight its "harder side" by hosting a series of showcases featuring aggressive female rock. Appropriately named, the RockHER Showcase Series, the first installment will feature five top-notch New York based Indiegrrl artists: Allison Tartalia, The Karen Rush Band, Calamine, Slushpuppy and From the Desk of Sally.

"So far, most Indiegrrl events have featured solo female artists or acoustic-based acts," explains Indiegrrl Dawn Botti, "but Indiegrrl welcomes and encompasses all styles and genres of music. The RockHER Showcase series will provide an outlet for those Indiegrrls that are harder rock oriented."

Indiegrrl, founded in 1998 by Seattle musician Holly Figueroa, consists of artists of many musical genres. In addition to Grammy-nominated songwriters and award-winning performers, Indiegrrl members include music web masters, managers, bookers, publishers, DJs and nationally known writers, all dedicated to the cause of creating and improving opportunities for independent women in music. In less than a year, Indiegrrl has grown from a simple Internet mailing list to an international organization with over 250 members. Its consistent vision and cooperative nature have resulted in a series of initiatives, including several national tours and a record label, Indiegrrl Records, which so far has released two compilation CDs (available upon request). Indiegrrl's Midwest Fall Tour kicks off on September 15, 1999 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and includes 32 other cities in Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Louisiana and Tennessee.
